In April 2020, in response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Scottish Government announced a national lockdown to protect the country from the virus. A ‘highest-risk’ subsection of society was identified who were at an increased risk of the virus, including people who were in ‘any stage of treatment’ for leukaemia and placed them into a Shielding category. I was one of those people.
This meant that I was to leave the house for no reason, was to take no visitors, and wasn’t able to be within 2 meters of the people I lived with.
To entertain myself, and to pass the time, I started voraciously consuming entertainment, but all of it was warped through the lens of COVID-19. This led to the development of the quarantine watchlist. A series of ‘digital monoprints’; drawings made digitally which followed my rules for monoprinting, with captions which gave a hopefully humorous insight into my state of mind at the time.
